The AMI Difference

The value-added from AMI’s unique model can be observed across the components necessary for long-term investment success.
Knowledge of the Client’s Goals and Objectives
AMI works with a concentrated group of institutions and individuals, regularly meeting with clients to ensure a thorough understanding of their goals and objectives. We work hard to educate our clients about investment markets and our decision-making process. The firm employs a dedicated client service team.
Because of our commitment to service, we must limit the number of individuals and institutions that we may form relationships with. Our target client is an institution or individual with more than $1 million in investable assets and a long-term investment horizon. This allows us to focus on a limited client base, providing personalized service to individuals and institutions who have entrusted us with their assets.
Knowledge of Financial Markets
AMI has a reputation for independent analysis and internally generated fundamental research. We view our independence in thought as one of the firm’s key assets. It helps us avoid the Wall Street “group think.” Benjamin Graham wrote that “There are two requirements for success in Wall Street. One, you have to think correctly; and secondly, you have to think independently.”
AMI has a broad range of investment experience across a wide range of different types of investment assets. The firm’s investment professionals have undertaken rigorous programs of study, including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)* program, widely regarded as the most rigorous course of study in investment management.
The firm follows time-tested investment strategies. We are bottom-up value investors in the mold of Warren Buffett, concentrating on divergences between price and intrinsic value and staying within our circle of competence. We focus on long-term value, do not try to forecast market movements and operate efficient portfolios with low turnover and cost consciousness. Above all, we are students of business with a passion for the industry and investment research.
Commitment to Always Acting in the Client’s Best Interests
Always acting in the best interests of our clients represents the guiding principle of our firm. We are committed to superior communication and transparency. Portfolio statements include detail on investment assets, performance and fees. Frequent notes, commentary and white papers detail our investment strategies and philosophy.
Because we are independent and owned by management, we have a significant investment in the firm’s reputation. As a small, entrepreneurial organization, we avoid bureaucratic and organizational impediments to decision-making and focus all of our energies on our area of expertise.
We “eat our own cooking” – we invest in the same assets as our clients subject to relevant considerations of suitability. Because we charge a fixed fee on assets under management, we are incentivized to maximize the long-term value of client accounts and enact portfolio decisions only when they build long-term value. We do not earn money from commissions or third-party fees. Accordingly, we are rewarded for managing accounts in a tax-efficient, cost-conscious manner.
